Sydney came to me as a rescue through the NWHKA (Northwest Herpetilogical Keepers Association). His owner had him his whole life but now was working too much and didn't have time for him anymore.

Syd is around 4 yrs old and is 48 inches long. He has all of his claws and all of his tail and spikes. He looks very healthy and is extremely tame. He is in breeding season right now and is still the sweetest iguana I have ever come across. We are considering keeping him as one of our own.

Syd was a free roamer in his old house and doesn't like being in the cage at all. So we have set up a heating pad for him on the arm of the couch, till we can get a shelf up for him. We placed a towel over it so he doesn't get burnt and he has a basking light at the end of the couch aimed at his heating pad for extra warmth.

At night and when we leave to go out we put Syd on a shelf in the bathroom that has a towel on it and we hung a ceramic heat bulb over it to keep him warm. His food and water are in the kitchen and I put him and the other iguanas in the tub every morning for pottying and to promote hydration.

Everyone who comes to our house loves Syd. they think it's so amazing that he is so tame and loves to be petted, even in breeding season. Everyone wants him and I don't want to give hm up. (LOOKS LIKE I DONT HAVE TO, BRAD OFFICIALLY SAID WE CAN KEEP HIM PERMINATELY!!!)

3/6/04 UPDATE: We've had Syd for a few months now and he has become a member of the family. I love him so much but I can't keep him. He challenges my boyfriend everytime he sees him sitting in his computer chair. I've sat in it and had no problems with Syd but for some reason whenever he sees my boyfriend there he thinks it's an invitation to challenge him. He's been great about everything else but those two just don't get along and i can't hang on any longer. My boyfriend is afraid of him now and that's just going to make things worse. So..syd is now back up for adoption. email me if you would like this 4 ft, free roaming gentle giant.

UPDATE: Sydney was adopted but they were intimidated by his behavior and the knowledge that he has bitten so they brought him back. I am determined to keep him, now that I know it is his breeding season agression and not just being mean. I love him and he loves me and I will NEVER give him or any other iguana of MINE (this does not include rescues) again.
